The American Trucking Associations (ATA), the nation’s leading trade and lobby association representing the trucking industry, is seeking a highly motivated, energetic candidate looking to learn about the wide-ranging operations of an associations and gain hands-on experience working as a Legislative Affairs Intern.
This position will work in our Capitol Hill office and will have the opportunity to interface with key transportation personnel. The intern will assist the Legislative Affairs team in the implementation of ATA’s legislative and policy positions. The intern will also learn how a non-profit organization influences policy at the federal and state level, and gain considerable insight into congressional procedures, the policy process, nonprofit lobbying and advocacy.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Attend Capitol Hill and external policy briefings
- Conduct legislative or regulatory research;
- Assist in preparing legislative testimony;
- Summarize and track legislation of interest to the trucking industry;
- Provide administrative assistance, including answering phones, updating spreadsheets, and creating e-mail distribution lists;

Skills and Qualifications:
- Recent college graduate or current college student focusing on either political science, law, public policy or other areas of study;
- Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a positive “can do” attitude;
- Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products particularly Excel and PowerPoint;
- The ability to work as a team;
- Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
