Old Dominion

Manufacturing, Transport & Logistics

Old Dominion is a true American success story.

Founded in 1934 by Earl & Lillian Congdon, Old Dominion Freight Line started out as a single truck running a 94-mile route in Virginia. These humble beginnings over 80 years ago firmly rooted OD’s strong family culture from which would ultimately grow the nation’s 2nd largest LTL carrier. OD’s continued growth provides exceptional opportunities and security for thousands of employees, who are writing the next chapter of OD’s story. The values that drove our founders decades ago still inspire us today. Whether it’s on the road, on the docks, in the office, or at one of our cookouts or many celebrations, there’s an attitude of sharing, caring, and smiling. It’s an attitude our customers and team members value and appreciate too… one that makes us more than just a freight carrier. It makes us a family. A family that helps the world keep promises.

OD has more than 25,000 employees across North America with 257+ service centers in the continental US. It’s known for its unique family culture built by the “OD Family Spirit.”

OD has been recognized by several organizations as an employer of choice. In 2023 alone OD was named to Forbes list of America’s Best Large Employers, TIME’s World’s Best Companies, Newsweek’s America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents & Families, and OD won The Women in Trucking Association award for “Top Companies for Women to Work for in Transportation.”

Why ODFL?

Old Dominion Freight Line has been named the #1 LTL carrier among national U.S. trucking companies for 15 consecutive years by Mastio & Company. This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence, supported by an annual reinvestment in real estate, equipment, and technology. We offer a robust 401(k) retirement plan, matching $0.50 for every dollar contributed up to 6% of salary, along with a discretionary match that adds even more to employees’ retirement accounts annually. Our Zero-Dollar employee-only medical plan for full-time employees, and tuition reimbursement programs for drivers and diesel mechanics, further demonstrate our focus on providing a comprehensive benefits package.

At Old Dominion, we are built on a solid foundation of family values, where a true work-life balance is not just a goal but a reality. This commitment to our people and our culture drives our success, which is evidenced by the many accolades we receive each year.
