Are you ready to launch your leadership career with a company that’s shaping the future of facility management in education?
SSC’s Manager in Training (MIT) Program is a structured development experience designed to prepare you for a full-time management role in one of three service lines: Custodial, Grounds, or Maintenance.

Over the course of 6–12 months, you’ll gain hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world leadership experience, giving you the skills and confidence to step into a permanent manager position. This is your opportunity to grow into a role that makes an impact—ensuring safe, clean, and thriving campus environments where students and educators succeed.

Program Tracks

During the MIT program, you will focus on one of SSC’s three service areas:

  • Custodial (6 Months): Learn to lead custodial teams, manage cleanliness and sanitation standards, oversee inspections, and deliver a welcoming environment across campus facilities.
  • Grounds (12 Months): Gain experience in grounds management, seasonal planning, irrigation, budgeting, and leading crews responsible for maintaining beautiful and safe outdoor spaces.
  • Maintenance (12 Months): Train in preventive maintenance, work order systems, building operations (HVAC, plumbing, electrical), and managing skilled technical teams.

What You’ll Learn

As an MIT, you’ll rotate through learning modules designed to prepare you for leadership success:

  • Team Leadership & Development: Leading crews, conducting huddles, and coaching employees.
  • Operations Management: Scheduling, inspections, and ensuring day-to-day services meet client expectations.
  • Budget & Business Skills: Exposure to labor tracking, supply management, and annual planning.
  • Safety & Compliance: Delivering safety talks, following protocols, and building a culture of safety.
  • Client Service: Building relationships, addressing service requests, and learning to be a trusted partner.

What Success Looks Like

  • You grow your leadership confidence and learn how to manage people effectively.
  • You understand how to balance service quality, safety, and budgets.
  • You’re able to solve problems in real time and provide excellent client service.
  • You’re prepared to transition into a Manager role at SSC upon program completion.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or Trade School preferred (all majors welcome).
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and drive to lead.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to learn technical aspects of Custodial, Grounds, or Maintenance operations.

Why Join SSC’s MIT Program?

  • Career Growth: A clear pathway from training to management.
  • On-the-Job Training: Real-world experience, not just classroom learning.
  • Mentorship: Guidance from experienced leaders who invest in your success.
  • Impact: Play a role in creating safe, clean, and inspiring learning environments for students across the country.

Outcome: After completing the MIT program, you’ll step into a full-time Manager role in Custodial, Grounds, or Maintenance—ready to lead with confidence and purpose.
