About the Roles:

Peabody is currently hiring skilled Maintenance Shop Mechanics to support its surface mining operations across the United States. These roles involve performing mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of heavy mining and support equipment in a fast-paced, safety-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintain heavy equipment including haul trucks, dozers, graders, loaders, scrapers, shovels, excavators, and drills
  • Perform diagnostics, tune-ups, and servicing on mining and support equipment
  • Remove and replace hydraulic components, radiators, pumps, valves, and turbochargers
  • Rebuild and install hydraulic cylinders and air valves
  • Operate lube/fuel trucks and auxiliary equipment as needed
  • Interpret maintenance manuals, part books, schematics, and blueprints
  • Perform arc welding and cutting with oxygen/acetylene torch
  • Participate in safety observations and interactions
  • Mentor and assist other team members

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • Three years of heavy equipment maintenance experience in mining, or
  • A two-year mechanical vo-tech degree plus one year of experience
  • Strong knowledge of mining equipment systems and repair procedures
  • Proficiency in reading schematics (hydraulic, air, low-voltage electrical)
  • Welding, cutting, and fabrication experience
  • Ability to operate cranes, forklifts, and other shop equipment
  • Flexibility to work in varied weather, conditions, and schedules
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing or sitting for extended periods, climbing on/off equipment
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. regularly without mechanical assistance
  • Repetitive hand/wrist movements, rapid reflexes, and strong coordination
  • Working in environments with dust, noise, low light, and changing weather
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
